Reason to ride
See South Africa on your bike and more
Some people need a reason to ride while others ride for no rhyme or reason. This motivation might sway those sitting on the fence. The fence is not a great place to sit especially if it is a barbed wire fence, so make your move.
From Day one, this has been the go2berg promise: the route is king! Riders of go2berg are privileged enough to ride through some of the most spectacular rural lands that South Africa has to offer. Riders traverse two provinces in three scenically different days; from open landscapes of the Eastern Free State to the spectacular descent down the Drakensberg into Kwa-Zulu Natal, and onto the Drakensberg World Heritage Mountains.
These are sections of the route which make go2berg spectacular, and reason enough to ride. To the highest point on Mt. Paul, descending the escarpment via Great Wall My China to the historic Spionkop Mountain. From Anglo-Boer war battle sites to ox-wagon descents you will ride alongside history.
From the moment you embark from Frankfort your every need is taken care of. From tented accommodation and all your meals to hot showers, beers and free Seattle Coffee to name but a few, you only need pedal from village to village.
Six and half days on go2berg followed by a safari with the big 5 is a great idea! Why not plan an awesome Big 5 safari around your go2berg trip or a trip to Cape Town. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for a range of options to suit your time and budget. If you want more riding on trails in the Cape area she will arrange. Ellen is your go2girl!
After a tough day out in the saddle, each race village provides a calm environment where you can refuel and recover for the next day’s ride. From homemade potjies, tender steaks and malva pudding to infinite variations of rusks, the food perfectly complements the unparalleled hospitality of these locals. The race villages, hosted by local communities alone will ensure that riders keep coming back every year.
go2berg puts its communities first. The race has successfully uplifted every community through which it has travelled. Each race village is run by a school which has benefited dramatically before, during and after the race has passed through their area. Each seconding table along the route belongs to a different charitable organisation who benefits from the race in a way that ensures their support every year. Riders can be proud of their contribution to making a difference in the communities they ride through.
From unintelligible Italians to enthusiastic Canadians to some massive teams of English and crazy Belguims, the race will see a myriad of nations join our riders in discovering the incredible country which the race explores.
These guys do everything in their power every year to ensure the riders have an incredible experience. From the moment you wake up until you go to sleep at night, the sponsors ensure your every need is catered for.
9. go2share (and calm your FOMO)
If you suffer from Fear Of Missing Out, enter now! It’s a helluva adventure as one particular team of foreigners discovered the hard way after a single day of racing, no experience/tyre sealant, and fifty devil thorns later. Another rider got a brake lever through his calf but managed to continue to finish. What would a stage race be without the banter in the race villages after the long day and the homely atmosphere and vibe provided by the race organisers and their stories.
Just ride it. Riding your bike for six days without a care in the world is something you need to experience. It is 6 days of escape from ordinary life to do the extra-ordinary.
